What Is Hajj-e-Badal? – Guidelines and Legal Rulings

What Is Hajj-e-Badal?


Hajj-e-Badal is one of the types of Hajj. Hajj e Badal is conducted on account of someone who is unable to complete his religious obligation due to physical limitations. Another condition for conducting Hajj e Badal is that the individual for whom it is being conducted is no longer alive.


Mahmoor is the name of the person conducting Hajj. Aamir is the name of the individual for whom the hajj is being done. Because Islam has established specific means for those who are unable to fulfill their religious obligations. As a result, there are specific requirements for both Aamir and Mahmoor. First and foremost, the individual designated to do Hajj on somebody else's behalf must be a sane Muslim. Prior to entering the state of Ihram, the person conducting Hajj Badal must make intent on account of the person for whom he is executing Hajj. When completing Hajj Badal for somebody who is incapacitated, severely ill, or too elderly, the obligation can only be fulfilled when they have been allowed. Aamir can send Mahmoor of their choice.


Conditions for Aamir


The person for whom Hajj is being undertaken is Aamir. Hajj is meant to be obligatory on the individual performing the Hajj. Moreover, if the disease and disability of a person are permanent, only in that case Hajj-e-Badal will be applicable. This Hajj is not allowed if the disability did not exist prior to sending Mahmoor on Hajj. Therefore, Aamir is expected to pay for the Hajj e Badal.


Conditions for Mahmoor


The most evident prerequisite for Mahmoor is that he is expected to be a physically and intellectually healthy Muslim. Women are also permitted to take on the role of Mahmoor. Mahmoor is obligated to do hajj in accordance with Aamir's wishes. Mahmoor must begin his Hajj journey from Aamir's house.
